Fred the Tree, an Australian pine, has defied the odds against the harsh Florida sun, the salty ocean air and several hurricanes who have tried to uproot him. He's growing strong out of the concrete of the old 7 mile bridge that connects Marathon to Big Pine Key and can be seen while driving on the new bridge of the Overseas Highway.
